Seth Godin writes on his blog:
People with writer’s block don’t have a problem typing. They have a problem living with bad writing, imperfect writing, writing that might expose something that they fear.
The best way to address this isn’t to wait to be perfect. Because if you wait, you’ll never get there.
The best way to deal with it is to write, and to realize that your bad writing isn’t fatal.
Wow, do I relate to this! When I’m journaling, with no fear of sounding bad or saying something stupid, I could write all day! But the second I think of my audience, someone out there reading what I’ve written, I start to clam up with insecurity.
Where else do we suffer from writer’s block? Because it’s not just writing – everything we want to do can be derailed by this block. “It won’t be good enough.”
I think that the best way to deal with anything, not just bad writing, is to keep doing it until you realize that it’s not fatal. And more often than not, you’ll realize that in the process of doing so much “bad” of something, you’ve turned out rather good.
