While in Portland this week, I met up with an old co-worker who insisted I couldn’t leave the area without seeing the Oregon Coast. This is where The Goonies was filmed, and where Johnny Utah caught Bodi in Point Break. So one day after my East Coast workday (5:00am-2:30pm) ended, he picked me up and we drove west.
I’d say it blew my mind, but by now the Pacific Northwest has been so justifiably hyped up that I felt I knew exactly what to expect. Foggy, windy and temperate weather. Big fir trees, lush undergrowth. It’s definitely a sight for someone who’s spent 99% of his life on the East Coast.
The real highlight was the freshly caught fish and chips (poorly pictured below) that we got at Cannon Beach afterward. I felt like we’d just missed the local surf crowd heading home for the day.
I’ve been dissing US travel for a while now, but after a great trip to San Francisco in January, and another to Portland this week, I’m going to have to rethink that.
