I owe a few of you readers a good deal of gratitude for your responses to last week’s post.
One of you described what I wrote as a church homily; another said that it reminded you of a Catholic version of Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting.
Both comments, taken together, gave me some inspiration.
Since going back to church in 2023, I have found it challenging to connect the Christian teachings in the Bible with my everyday life. Typically, the priest’s homily each week focuses on the spiritual element of the Gospel – God’s love, or eternal life – rather than the practical message for living better as a Christian in this life.
I have often wished for something like this newsletter to help me explore my own faith through the teachings of the Gospel, but have struggled to find what I’m looking for.
So I’ve decided to create it myself.
Hopefully each of you received an email last week welcoming you to The Sunday Drip, my new writing project. If you didn’t, check your spam folder. You can also subscribe here:
The Sunday Drip is a weekly newsletter that explores that week’s Gospel readings and the implications for our own lives. If you have enjoyed my writing over the years – particularly last week’s newsletter – then I think you’ll like this as well. Even if you are not a Christian, or are not religious, consider giving it a shot. One of my biggest regrets is not having a more open mind towards faith and religion over the years – you might be surprised where this takes you.
If it’s not for you, you can unsubscribe, no worries.
As for the actual process of creating The Sunday Drip, the project is a product of two rules I have tried to stick to over the years:
Be Patient: Trust that opportunities will come with an open mind.
Jump In: There is no day like today to get started.
I spent the last few years brainstorming different writing projects, but nothing felt right. Then, last Friday, the idea struck for The Sunday Drip, and by Sunday I had a name, website and the first post written.
If your gut tells you to go for it, go for it.
I will continue to write for EF Writing Project, and may cross post between the two when the relevant. I plan to migrate this publication to Substack in the near future for simplicity, but you won’t need to do anything to stay subscribed.
As always, a huge thanks to all of you for reading each week. I haven’t felt this inspired in a long time, and your ongoing support is a big reason why.
