“Be Where Your Feet Are”

Sitting down to read but thinking about the unchecked scores on your TV. Talking to a friend but glancing down at your phone for the latest text in some other conversation. In a meeting at work but focused on that email you need to send within the hour.

Some of these will sound familiar – they certainly do for me.

We know deep down that being split between two things doesn’t work. We’re much less effective individually and, even worse, we let others down when we can’t make ourselves fully available to the task at hand.

That’s why I love reminding myself to be where my feet are. Whatever I’m physically doing, I need to be mentally present as well. Not scrolling my phone while talking to my parents, or worried about work while spending quality time at home. Present in the moment.

It’s hard to succeed at anything if you’re always off balance.
